I heard of Wildbird Charity through a fellow Rotarian. I invited Executive Director, Phill Esau to come to our club – the Pacific Northwest Passport Club to give a presentation. The Wildbird Backpack Program is a much needed service for Whatcom County Schools that have asked for assistance – especially during these trying times.
The most rewarding aspect of volunteering is Rotarian belief of service above self. I know I’m helping get food out to our local families. It’s been fun meeting the other volunteers and working with the organization.

I’ve been volunteering with the Backpack Program since 2018. I work for the Blaine School District and noticed students struggling with food needs over the weekend. When Executive Director, Phill Esau approached Christ the King Church in Blaine about helping with the Backpack Program, I immediately wanted to help. CTK Blaine’s role is to pack the food bags weekly. It breaks my heart that children in our community go hungry, but through the Backpack Program, I’m able to help those children.
