Feeding Hungry Kids
Over 1/3 of Whatcom County households are either working poor or live below the poverty line, which means too many kids coming to school hungry on Monday mornings. We know that children function better in school—and not just academically—when they have food in their stomachs.
We are joining communities throughout the USA and Canada to provide meals over the weekend for kids in need. We work with schools to identify the need, resources and support available in each community.
Volunteers secure and pack the food for children to take home from school each Friday. The contents of the pack vary, but our focus is always on nutritious, kid-friendly and easy-to-prepare food.
Our long-term goal is for all school districts in Whatcom County to have a weekend food backpack program for hungry children. Each one-time donation of $450 or $37.50/monthly feeds one needy child for weekends for a full school year.
